The Tire Pressure Monitoring system exists as an early warning system for tire underinflation. Vehicles that don't have properly inflated tires are more susceptible to blowouts which can cause a major accident. There are two types of TPMS systems: Direct and Indirect. A Direct TPMS uses pressure sensors within each tire to measure the level of inflation. An Indirect TPMS uses wheel speed sensors to measure the rate of revolutions which is then interpreted as wheel size by the computer systems of a vehicle. An underinflated tire or tires will begin to register as smaller in size which will trigger a warning in the system. Much like any other part of a vehicle, this system will get old and need to be replaced. When this happens, a warning light will come on to alert the owner that the vehicle needs to be serviced. Here at Scott's, we can make that process easy and affordable so call us today to set up an appointment!
