Brake Repair And Service

A vehicle's Brakes require routine maintenance servicing (and sometimes repair) to maintain your safety on the road. The Brake system is comprised of brake pads, cylinders, drums, and rotors. All of these components endure significant wear and tear, and with time will need replacement. Brake system maintenance is also essential to maintaining the safety, and can often prevent the need for major brake service repairs.

How do you know if you need a repair?

There are several apparent signs that you should look for to determine when your vehicle’s Brakes require servicing!

  • Check your vehicle's Brakes by looking at the Brake Pads. You can do this by looking through the spaces between the wheel spokes. The general rule of thumb is that there should be at least 2mm of Brake Pad. If you see less than 2mm of Brake Pad, it's time to bring the vehicle in for servicing.
  • A high-pitched screeching noise when pressing upon your brakes is an indicator that your brakes need to be replaced.
  • A small puddle of fluid under your car below the brake pedal may indicate a hydraulic fluid leak and require attention from your local auto service center. If you believe your brake fluid is leaking, please do not drive and call your local auto dealer for instructions.
  • A grinding sound may be that your pads have completely worn down. If you hear this, make an immediate appointment for servicing as it could mean that the Brake Pads need to be replaced.
What may cause the problem and how can you prevent it?

The way you drive your vehicle, in terms of speed, has a significant effect on Brake efficacy. When you hit the Brakes at high speeds, you run the risk of wearing down this part quicker than normal. Another way to prevent having to get your Brakes repaired or replaced is to use your right foot only, while driving. This will prevent you from simultaneously pushing both pedals at the same time, and wearing the Brakes much faster than necessary. Lastly, routine and scheduled vehicle maintenance is crucial to maintaining Brakes that work properly.
