How do you know if you need a repair?

There are several apparent signs that one should look for to determine when their vehicle requires preventative maintenance servicing!

  • A misfiring engine or a car that does not easily start up may indicate that the fuel injector needs to be serviced.
  • A longer crank time, when starting the car, could be the result of a Fuel Injector leak.
  • cranking no-start, hard starting, stalling, loss of power and poor fuel economy are all symptoms of something going wrong with the Fuel Injector
  • If you have gone too long without getting the oil and Air Filter changed, it can cause problems with the Fuel Injector. So it is wise to consider the maintenance history of the vehicle as well.
  • It's time to replace the vehicle's Wiper Blades when they no longer perform the way they did in the past. If the Wiper Blades are leaving streaks or smears (of water) across the windshield or are squealing, chattering or are not coming into contact with the windshield while in motion, this is a sign that the Wiper Blades require replacing.
  • Wiper Blades can break at the joints, corrode on the screws (which hold it together), and the rubber squeegee edge may tear, crack, or be chipped.
  • A dashboard light turning on is a major indication that something on the car requires servicing. The Tire Pressure light is a sign that there is too low or too high of air pressure in the tire. It could also mean that your car will require a new tire and possibly a tire rotation and balance.
What may cause the problem and how can you prevent it?

It only takes one dirty Fuel Injector nozzle to hinder a car's driving performance, which is why regular maintenance in this region is so necessary. Fuel Injector cleaning products can assist in the prevention of unwanted problems. A liquid additive, such as Chevron Techron Complete Fuel System Cleaner, can work to prevent the buildup of dirt particles, which can clog the Fuel Injector.

Wiper Blades become old over time, and therefore their continual replacement is required for better driving conditions, during rain. Scott's Auto Center recommends the replacement of wiper blades every six months to a years time.

Tires will wear down from the tar on the road over time. One of the best ways to prevent this from occurring sooner is to focus on your driving. Stopping too short too often can lead to excessive wearing of the tire's tread. Alternatively, hitting the gas too hard too fast can also be a lead factor in tire tread that wears too quickly. A smooth driving experience will always transfer to a longer lasting tire tread. There are also higher grade tires, which you can purchase, that should hold their tire tread for longer periods. Tires should be replaced when the tread has reached 4/32" of remaining tread depth. The most common way to tell if your tire has reached this 4/32” depth mark is to do the penny test! This can be done by sticking a penny into the tread of the tire, upside down and with Abraham Lincoln's head facing you. If you can see all of Abe's head, your tire's tread has worn down too far and it is time to replace the tire.

More About Preventative Maintenance:

The 75,000 mile service checkup is an important preventative measure! This is a scheduled maintenance service designed to inspect all the different aspects of a vehicle, providing the opportunity to catch early warning signs that can then be addressed before the issue becomes more extensive and costly. The car will be visually inspected for any obvious damage, oil and filters will be replaced, and a safety inspection will be performed to make sure the car is road ready. This can also be a good time to replace old tires, old shocks, and/or the drive belt. Contact Scott's Auto Center today, to have your car inspected for any preventive measures it may require or for your vehicle's 75,000 mile checkup!
